Serious diabetes related eye disease can cause blindness. Highly specialized techniques are available
to prevent this from happening, including laser light therapy. The specialist eye service works closely
with the specialist diabetes team, to support the Wolverhampton Diabetes Eye Screening programme, in a
jointly run clinic in the Wolverhampton Diabetes Centre.
Patients who require on-going specialist eye follow-up and
treatment are seen in the Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary Clinic. People with other
eye disease such as glaucoma and cataract are also dealt with at the Eye Infirmary.
Referral to these services is by your general practitioner, specialist diabetes
services and Opticians. Urgent and emergency problems can be seen at the emergency
department of the Eye Infirmary. |
